Andrew Malby

Founder, IronRoot Athletics

I'm a father of four, a homeschool dad, and the founder of IronRoot Athletics. After moving to Ave Maria, I kept seeing children on the sidelines of pickup games who wanted to play but didn't know how. I couldn't stop thinking about how we could help.

I coach every session personally and treat each athlete the way I would want my own children to be coached.

"My goal is not simply to teach football skills — it's to help children build confidence, learn discipline, and grow in character rooted in faith and family."

As a homeschool father in this community, I understand what families are seeking: a structured, faith-aligned space where kids can develop physically, socially, and spiritually — without the pressure of hyper-competitive sports.

Safety is non-negotiable. I bring the same careful attention I desire for my own family to every single session.

Ceselie Mudron

Head Volleyball Coach · Senior at Ave Maria University, Indoor Volleyball Team · Major: Exercise Physiology

"Above all, I want to build an environment where athletes can grow in both virtue and skill—learning to serve the Lord better each day."

Heading into her senior year as an indoor volleyball player at Ave Maria University, Ceselie brings years of competitive court experience and deep technical knowledge to IronRoot Athletics. She is the creator and architect of IronRoot's volleyball initiative—having personally named, designed, and built the entire 10-week Crescere volleyball and virtue curriculum from the ground up. She has been coaching beach volleyball for three years and indoor for two, including leading local middle school training groups last fall.

Ceselie is a firm believer that it's never too late to learn the game. Despite playing since the sixth grade, she couldn't properly overhand serve until her sophomore year of high school. That experience shaped her patient, fundamentals-first coaching philosophy: every skill can be built from scratch with focused practice and joyful discipline.

When she isn't studying exercise physiology or training in the gym, Ceselie loves playing "volleypickle" with friends, eating Chipotle, and finding ways to help young athletes use sport as a vehicle to grow closer to God.

Megan Aguirrezabal

Meet the Coach

Megan Aguirrezabal

Assistant Volleyball Coach · Sophomore at Ave Maria University, Beach Volleyball Club Founder · Major: Biochemistry

"I love volleyball because you are always learning new skills and meeting new people. It's a sport that naturally builds connection and community."

Megan brings a wealth of competitive high school and club experience to the IronRoot staff, having played four years of indoor varsity and two years of varsity beach volleyball. She is deeply invested in growing the sport locally, having founded the beach volleyball club at Ave Maria University and stepped into youth coaching with under-fifteen teams this summer.

Megan's own start in the sport wasn't traditional—her mom actually had to trick her into trying out for her school's team in the sixth grade. She didn't fully fall in love with the game until her junior year of high school, which is why she is so passionate about creating an encouraging, low-pressure environment where girls can discover the sport at their own pace.

When she isn't balancing a heavy biochemistry courseload or studying in the library, you can find Megan playing beach volleyball on the courts in Ave Maria, spending time at the beach, or enjoying dark chocolate.

DeAnna

Assistant Volleyball Coach · Senior at Ave Maria University, Indoor and Beach Volleyball Teams · Major: Health Science (Education Minor)

"Volleyball has a unique way of bringing people together and creating a family. I love being part of a team where everyone connects and supports one another both on and off the court."

DeAnna is a veteran dual-sport collegiate athlete, playing both indoor and beach volleyball for Ave Maria University. With an academic background in Health Science and a minor in Education, she pairs her elite athletic experience with a practical understanding of how to teach, encourage, and mentor young people effectively.

Volleyball has been central to DeAnna's life since the fourth grade, when she fell in love with the game while watching her older sister play. But progress didn't happen overnight—as a fifth-grader on a travel team, she couldn't even serve the ball over the net from the ten-foot line. Through patience, hard work, and joyful discipline, she built the foundation to play at the college level, and she brings that same persistent, building-block approach to every athlete she coaches.

When she isn't on the court or studying, DeAnna can be found spending time in the chapel, hanging out at the beach, or satisfying her serious sweet tooth.

Kayla Mudron

Assistant Volleyball Coach · Junior at Ave Maria University, Indoor Volleyball Team · Major: Health Science (Theology Minor)

"Through both athletics and physical recovery, I've learned that the hardest seasons often teach us the greatest lessons—strengthening our patience, perseverance, discipline, and trust in God's providence."

Kayla is a junior indoor volleyball player at Ave Maria University studying Health Science with a minor in Theology. Raised in a competitive family of five girls, sports have always been central to her life. As the second oldest, she followed directly in the footsteps of her older sister—Head Coach Ceselie—jumping onto the volleyball court to fill a team spot in sixth grade and falling in love with the game ever since.

Bringing a rich multi-sport background in gymnastics and basketball, Kayla played two collegiate seasons for AMU before undergoing knee surgery. Currently navigating the physical recovery process on "injured reserve," she brings a unique, highly empathetic perspective to coaching—understanding firsthand what it takes to build physical strength, stay mentally tough through setbacks, and maintain a positive attitude during injury rehabilitation.

Kayla's coaching approach focuses on helping young athletes channel their competitive fire into virtuous growth. She is passionate about teaching girls how to combine grit and hard work with patience, discipline, and deep trust in God both on and off the court.

Want to Coach at IronRoot?

We're building the IronRoot coaching team one person at a time — and we're selective about it. Every coach at IronRoot needs to share the same values: faith-rooted, patient with beginners, genuinely invested in kids, and able to make practice feel like the best part of a child's week. If that sounds like you — or if you'd love to see a new sport added for your kids — we want to hear from you.

We'll follow up personally. This is a conversation, not a waitlist.
